1987 as a Level One Regional Resource trauma
Center. It is one of 26 accredited trauma centers in
Pennsylvania and one of three of the region's
Level-1 trauma centers.

Pennsylvania and surrounding states.
- In addition to treating the most serious life-
threatening injuries, Regional Resource Trauma
Centers conduct clinical research and educational
programs in trauma.
- The City of Pittsburgh's Department of Public
Safety centers its Medical Command Facility at
Presbyterian Hospital, from which city paramedics
serve injured patients. This system also has one of
the largest and most comprehensive air medical
transport programs in the United States.

- A fully equipped research facility located within Montefiore University
hospital provides the optimal setting for medical investigators to conduct
safe, controlled, and state-of-the-art, in-patient and out-patient studies
- 250 active approved protocols serving 113 principal investigators
- 11 inpatient beds, 5 outpatient beds, 17 full time research nursing staff
